  1. Do you sell rifles?

We currently only sell the Hammerhead grip / stock adapter, and some accessories, no rifles.

  2. Is it comfortable?

    Yes.

The product is actually much more rounded than it appears in side-on photos.

Everyone who's held it and fired it has remarked how comfortable it is. One shooter said it was "all-day comfortable." So don't judge it strictly by appearance. Try one risk-free for 30 days. If you don't love it, send it back for a full refund.

  3. It looks like the recoil will throw the weapon up and over your shoulder since the stock is not on-axis with the barrel. How's the effect of muzzle rise and recoil?

If you hold your AR-15 with the entire buttpad in the pocket of your shoulder, you'll experience minimal muzzle climb because you'll be supporting the weapon inline with the recoil. That's obviously the ideal situation. However, that's not the way most people hold their AR-15s anymore.

The torque due to recoil at the shoulder with the Hammerhead is less than half as great as if you hold a free state AR-15 military style (with the buttpad tip high on your shoulder as is commonly done in armed conflict and competitions). (Don't forget when you shoot a rifle military style you aren't inline with the recoil anymore, you've got a lever arm there almost as long as your buttpad).

Torque is the physical property we use to describe tendency of a force to rotate an object about an axis. In this case, we're interested in the recoil force rotating the rifle up and back around an axis at the very top of the buttpad (Hammerhead rifle configured as pictured above) or the very bottom of the buttpad (freestate rifle held military style).

Heres' how it breaks down. The distance from the rifle bore axis to the top of the stock attached to the Hammerhead (as shown in the photo above) is constant (largely independent of stock choice) around 46mm. The distance from the bore axis to the lower tip of the buttpad in a free state rifle held military style high on the shoulder is on the order of 110-130mm (depends on which stock you use and how much of the lower tip of the buttpad contacts your shoulder). Torque is directly proportional to this length. So given the exact same recoil force (same ammunition), you experience approximately 2x to 3x the torque shooting a free state rifle military style as you do with the Hammerhead.

  4. Is Hammerhead approved by any governmental firearms regulating authority?

Some governments regulate what accessories you may attach to your AR-15 rifle. If you live in a jurisdiction where the features of the AR-15 are restricted, you may wish to read our Legal page for an overview of the laws as they apply to your location. No website can substitute for the advice of a competent firearms attorney however, and we strongly recommend if you live in a restricted area that you avail yourself of counsel before constructing or modifying any black rifle.

  5. Is it hard to reach the selector switch?

People have differing capabilities with their hands. Some customers report no trouble actuating the safety. Other customers prefer to use an ambidextrous ("ambi") safety.

  6. Is it hard to reach the magazine release?

Most customers have no difficulties. If you have very small hands you may need to rock the hand forward to hit the mag release. Some customers with very small hands report success using the Arredondo mag release button.

  7. Can you post a photo with a [Brand X] Stock?

We have a bunch of stocks on hand but there are dozens if not hundreds of stocks on the market. It's just not practical for us to purchase and try every stock. Have a look at our customer photos page to see if your desired stock is pictured there.

  8. Will you produce a grip-only version without the bulge at the tail section and without provision to mount a stock?

If the market demand is strong we will consider producing an alternate grip-only form of the product. In the meantime it is easy to modify the product by cutting off the threaded tail section entirely using a hacksaw, then filing, sanding and painting. Naturally such modification voids the warranty, and depending on how far you cut and what jurisdiction you live in, you may impact the legality of the product.

  9. Is there a plug available for the threads in the tail section, for those who want to use it as a grip?

Spikes Tactical makes a nice black anodized aluminum pistol plug ST-22 with a sling attachment. There could be other manufacturers who make these as well and we will post them as we find them.

  10. Will Hammerhead fit my (non-AR-15) rifle?

Hammerhead was designed to fit mil-spec AR-15 lower receivers. If your pistol grip mount point is identical or very close to that of the AR-15, it may fit. Email us with your specific rifle and we'll try to determine if it will fit.

  11. Can I attach [Brand X] stock upside-down?

We don't keep every stock on hand but generally you can attach a stock upside down if it won't interfere with the pistol buffer (receiver extension) tube.

  12. Will it work with an A2 stock?

Hammerhead will work with an A2 stock with the rifle in Type I configuration:

The length of pull is too long however to be practical. You could also saw off the tail section of the Hammerhead and in this case it will work with the A2 stock in Type IV (Grip-Only Underhand) configuration:

In this case you lose the ability to grasp the rifle in a natural overhand manner. A good way to get something of the A2 look and still have the ability to wrap your hand around the rifle is by use of the Model 1 Sales LE Tactical stock, again in Type I configuration:
